There’s only one reason The Intercept can fight these fights while so many others capitulate: Our readers give a shit.

The mergers just keep coming.

Pro-Trump billionaires Larry and David Ellison are on the verge of completing the merger of Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company of CNN and HBO. We’ve already seen what David Ellison does with a newsroom: He bought CBS last year, promptly gutted “60 Minutes,” and hired Bari Weiss, a rabidly pro-Israel opinion writer backed by MAGA billionaires, to run CBS News.

Meanwhile Fox Corp. recently announced that it’s purchasing Roku, giving it a foothold in more than 100 million households that stream content using Roku devices.

Elon Musk already owns Twitter/X. Jeff Bezos has the Washington Post, along with Amazon’s streaming service. Mark Zuckerberg controls Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. And the Trump administration is moving to lift the ownership cap on broadcast media to allow right-wing conglomerates like Sinclair to expand their control of local news.

What’s left that Trump’s billionaire friends don’t own?

Independent nonprofit journalism is the only thing standing between these consolidations and a fully captured press. After all, if The Intercept disappears, what will remain?

We’re doubling down on the hard-hitting, adversarial investigative journalism that has earned us a long and proud list of powerful enemies.

There’s only one reason we can fight these fights while so many others capitulate: Our readers give a shit. The Intercept runs on reader support — more than 70 percent of our budget comes directly from people like you.

Will you donate $5 to keep The Intercept strong and hold the powerful accountable at a time when a handful of billionaires are trying to control the news and culture?

Thank you,
The Intercept team
