| Here’s how to make an Epsom salt foot soak
|
| The potential perks of Epsom salt are likely attributed to its magnesium content, which may have health benefits when taken as a supplement. However, there’s limited research showing that an Epsom salt foot bath leads to higher magnesium levels with related health benefits. |
| That said, it may still be relaxing and beneficial to take a warm foot bath — with or without Epsom salt. |
| People use Epsom salt foot baths to: |
- reduce pain and inflammation
- relieve foot odor
- exfoliate dead skin
- treat calluses or fungal infections
|
| Soaking your feet in an Epsom salt bath is generally considered safe, with minimal side effects, but it's not recommended for people with diabetes. You might also want to speak with a doctor before trying if you have extremely dry skin, open wounds or sores, or tenderness after a foot injury, as the bath might increase the risk of irritation or infection. |
| Ready to soak your feet? Here’s how to do it: |
- Fill a tub with warm water until it’s deep enough to cover your feet.
- Add 1/2 cup of Epsom salt to the water.
- Soak your feet for 30 to 60 minutes (twice per week).
- Moisturize your feet thoroughly after soaking them to prevent dry, cracked skin.
- Optional: Add a few drops of diluted lavender, eucalyptus, or peppermint essential oil for an aromatherapy boost!
