The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) approved a renewal of the “Building and Transforming Coverage, Services, and Supports for a Healthier Virginia (BTCSSHV)” section 1115 demonstration. Approval of this demonstration renewal enables Virginia to continue receiving federal financial participation (FFP) for providing substance use disorder (SUD) treatment services in an institution for mental diseases (IMD) to eligible beneficiaries, extends Medicaid eligibility for former foster care youth under age 26 who aged out of foster care in another state or tribe and currently reside in Virginia, and sunsets the High Needs Support component of the demonstration. In addition, Virginia now has the authority to receive FFP for providing eligible individuals with a serious mental illness, Medicaid services in an IMD.
