Nobody just wakes up and decides to spend $3,000 a year on DoorDash.
But you might get tired on Tuesday, work late on Thursday, and forget to go shopping Friday…
So by December, you're staring at a crime scene of a year-end spending summary.
Same deal with your body.
Nobody decides to get winded by two flights of stairs.
You just stop moving, and life sends you a bill for it.
Your money and your health are more alike than you think: the small, boring, repeated decisions add up.
Do the good ones and you get rich and healthy. It’ll take time, but one day you’ll look back at a fat bank account and a flat stomach.
Do the bad ones and you get a $6,000 Discover balance and a resting heart rate your doctor compared to EDM.
Look, I'm not gonna to tell you to overhaul your life.
That never works.
You wake up Monday ready to become a monk, and by Thursday you're eating cold pizza over the sink at 2am wondering why you shaved your head for nothing.
You don't need sacrifices. You need swaps.
Same behavior. Different mechanisms. Better result.
Here are three easy ones.
(Don’t worry, I’ll be gentle…)
1. Learn five meals and stop paying the lazy tax
Go look at your last delivery order.
A $14 meal turns into $28 by the time the app is done.
Menu markup, delivery fee, service fee, "small order" fee, tip.
You paid double for food that showed up at room temperature.
Twice a week, that's about $250 a month.
Three grand a year to eat shitty food you always regret anyway.
Your waistline feels it too.
Delivery food carries way more sodium and calories than anything you'd make in your own kitchen, because it's built to be edible after sitting in a warm Civic for 25 minutes.
Now, I'm not telling you to become a chef.
Just learn five meals. That’s it.
Something with eggs.
Something with ground beef.
Something with rice.
A soup.
A sandwich that isn't depressing.
Five meals you can make half asleep, with stuff you always keep in the house, in under 20 minutes.
Do that, and you stop negotiating with yourself at 8pm because the decision already got made back when you had a functioning brain.
And if you need recipes, keep your eyes peeled. I might have something coming soon….
(Bonus tip: figure out how to meal-prep, and you’ll only have to cook one day a week.)
2. Cancel the gym you don't go to
Pull up your bank statement right now.
Find the gym charge.
The average person is spending about $60 a month, or $720 a year.
Now be honest about how many times you've actually badged in since January.
If you can count it on one hand, that's a $60 monthly fat tax. You're paying to stay fat. Nice.
Two options: Go, or cancel.
If you love the gym and it's the thing that gets you moving, keep it forever.
Money you spend on something you actually use isn’t wasted. That's the whole point of a budget.
But if you've paid for eight months and gone four times, cancel today and put that $60 somewhere useful, like your credit card, your emergency fund, or quite literally anywhere that isn't taquitos.
Then replace it with the thing you'll actually do.
A 30 minute walk.
Using the bike in your hallway as a bike, instead of a clothing rack.
Fucking tai-chi in the park.
Whatever!
These things are great for your health and cost pretty much ZERO dollars.
3. Stop paying $3.50 for a can of carbonated sugar
This one's the most obvious, but probably the hardest...
Gas station energy drink: roughly $3.50.
One a day, every day, is $1,275 a year.
Plus about a bazillion grams of sugar a week and a 3pm crash that makes you feel like you got hit by a bus.
Here’s the switch.
Just use Gamer Supps.
Zero sugar, ten calories, vitamins and nootropics, no crash, no jitters.
A 100 serving tub runs $40.
(That's just 40 cents a drink.)
I’m no math expert, but I’m pretty sure 40 cents beats $3.50 any day…
Same caffeine. Same "okay, I can open my laptop now" feeling.
About $1,130 a year back in your pocket, every year, for changing something you’re gonna use every day.
And yes, they sponsor me.
They also let me make my own flavor and I named it Liquid Assets, so deal with it.
Here's why I'm bringing it up today specifically.
Gamer Supps is running their Christmas in July sale right now. You buy a tub at 10% discount, and you get free gifts per tub.
(Up to six!)
So if you were going to make this swap anyway, make it this week while they're still handing out free stuff.
