Governments are piling up debt as though a reckoning will never come. Many may be hoping that AI-fuelled growth will save them. But higher interest rates (thanks in part to data centres hoovering up capital) are arriving before any such growth. And any AI growth explosive enough to save their budgets will also displace workers. That will stretch the finances
further still.
It remains unknown what combination of misinformation, organised trafficking and the Moroccan state caused tens of thousands of people to surge into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta in North Africa last week. But the panic it caused showed that nothing spooks European leaders like mass border crossings. Malicious actors
will take note.
