At least six people have died and five have been injured after devastating flooding in the prefecture of Chiba, near Tokyo. The area saw more than 100mm of what authorities called "unprecedented" rain per hour on Thursday - about three times the August average, and the highest volume ever recorded in the country. More than 100,000 households were asked to evacuate, 20,000 homes lost power and 7,000 travellers were stranded overnight at Tokyo's Narita airport. While the rain is expected to continue on Friday, the emergency warning level has been reduced. The deluge comes after a series of storms swept through the region during an unusually active typhoon season.

As Afghanistan marks five years under the Taliban, we speak to women about the restrictions on their lives. Since retaking power in 2021, the ultra-conservative rulers have significantly cracked down on what women can do. "Many of us no longer have the time or energy to think about the future," one woman told us, while an 18-year-old in Kabul said her childhood dream of becoming a pilot now "feels almost impossible". 

Millions of people have viewed footage of a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent pointing his weapon through a car window at a woman after she posted it on Instagram. Carolina Molina told us she was out delivering business cards in Falls Church, Virginia, when she saw the officers. Dashcam footage from her car, analysed by BBC Verify, shows her driving past the agents, swearing, before she is blocked in by two vehicles and the incident with the gun occurs. The US Department of Homeland Security claimed Molina "attempted to harm officers by weaponising her vehicle". She denies this.
