 Clear the Shelters is This Weekend!
Clear the Shelters is this weekend, Friday, August 21 through Sunday, August 23. ALL pets will have their adoption fees waived, plus, senior cats and dogs will go home with a $250 care credit to Pender Veterinary Centre, courtesy of the Friends of the Fairfax County Animal Shelter.
Virginia residents can take any of our adoptable dogs or select cats and small animals home on an Adoption Audition to see if it's a match. Learn more about Adoption Auditions on our adoptable pets page below.
Last year, 180 shelter pets found their new homes during Clear the Shelters. Help make this year even better!

Michael R. Frey Campus to Close Temporarily
Our Michael R. Frey Campus will temporarily close starting Monday, August 31, 2026, for HVAC renovations. Renovations will take approximately six months.
Our Lorton Campus will remain open to the public with normal operating hours. There's never been a better time to foster or adopt! Every foster home and every adoption helps create space to support even more pets in need.
