The first day of school is almost here! We've pulled together the important links, dates, and reminders you'll need as we get ready for Monday.
Annual Giving is Here!
Annual Giving is the PTA's biggest fundraiser of the year, and your support helps make so many of the extras at KG possible.
Donations from KG families help fund beginning-of-year classroom funds for teachers, playground shade structures, field trips, Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week, after-school programs, author visits, family events like STEAM Night and Movie Night, new benches and picnic tables, and more.
No selling, no catalogs, no cookie dough- instead just one donation that supports KG all year long!
Our goal is to raise $48,000 this year to continue supporting programs and experiences that benefit every student at KG. Every donation makes a difference, and we'd love to have as many KG families participate as possible!

Come to Open House tomorrow! Thursday, August 20 from 2–4 p.m. Stop by the Kona Ice truck while you're there!
- Bring your outgrown KG gear to the Swag Swap! Drop off clean, gently used KGES spirit wear at the Swag Swap table during Open House - and pick up something new-to-you!
- Join the PTA
- Shop KG spirit wear! The 2026–27 Spirit Wear Store is now open.
- Label those water bottles, lunch boxes, and jackets! Order Mabel's Labels and your purchase supports the PTA.
Volunteer Opportunities:
New to volunteering with the PTA? This is a great place to start! We have a few open roles and would love to welcome some new faces. No PTA experience needed!
- Compost Helpers - Help students sort their lunch waste for composting alongside Ms. Waters during lunch. Choose a morning or afternoon shift—no experience needed! Sign up for a time slot here
- Lost & Found Helper – Help organize lost items and take photos to share on the PTA Facebook page.
- Spring Book Fair Chair – Help coordinate and lead our spring Book Fair.

Community Submissions:
- Girls on the Run: Registration is open through September 14 for girls in grades 3–6. Practices begin September 21 and are held Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:45–5 p.m., with an end-of-season 5K on November 22. Register here for Girls on the Run or contact kges.gotr@gmail.com with questions.
- Join Scouting America: Troop 128 and Cub Scout Pack 665 invite KG families to a Scout Open House from 6–8 p.m. on Monday, August 31 at St. John’s Episcopal Church. Meet Scout leaders and learn more about Scouting America. All are welcome!
- Redeemer Renaissance Preschool & After-School Programs: Registration is open for the 2026–27 school year for children ages 1.5–5. Redeemer Renaissance also offers after-school programming for elementary students, including sports, STEAM, music, science, French, art, tutoring, and more. Call 703-356-3346 or visit RedeemerRenaissance.org for information or a tour.
