Overdose Awareness Vigil
 Join the Arlington Addiction Recovery Initiative (AARI) and community members for an evening of remembrance, connection, and hope at the 2026 Overdose Awareness Vigil. Honor lives lost to overdose and support those affected by substance use. No registration required.

Connect Your Congregation to Community Resources
Faith communities are often among the first places residents turn when they need support. Arlington County invites faith leaders, staff, volunteers, and congregants to the Interfaith Resource Fair on Social Safety Net Services. Meet County staff, learn about available resources and referral pathways, and explore opportunities for collaboration. RSVP by August 28.

Medicaid Changes Coming in 2027
Some Virginia Medicaid members may see changes beginning January 1, 2027, including new work requirements and eligibility renewals every six months instead of annually. These changes only apply to certain adults enrolled through Medicaid Expansion and do not apply to many groups, including pregnant and postpartum people, caregivers of young children, and people with disabilities or serious health conditions.
The most important step members can take now is to make sure their contact information is up to date through CommonHelp so they get future notices about their coverage. Learn more about the upcoming changes and available exemptions.
Foster Parent Information Session
Could fostering be in your future? Arlington County's Foster Parent Services offers virtual information sessions for individuals and families interested in fostering children and youth. In Case you Missed It...
New EBT Chip Cards Coming This Fall
Virginia SNAP recipients will get new chip-enabled EBT cards this fall to help protect benefits from fraud. Arlington SNAP recipients should get their cards in November. Benefits and account balances won’t change.
To prepare, make sure DHS has your current mailing address and set up a ConnectEBT account to manage your card and monitor your benefits. Read our blog to learn about the new cards and how to get ready.
Summer Meals and SUN Bucks Help Families
Get Free Summer Meals for Teens
Teens with a free Teen Pass can get free meals at Arlington Mill Community Center from June 29–August 28. Lunch is served from 2:30–3:30 p.m., and snacks are available from 4:30–5:30 p.m.
Get $120 for Groceries
Families may qualify for Virginia SUN Bucks, a one-time $120 grocery benefit. Many families are automatically enrolled, including those receiving SNAP, TANF, income-based Medicaid, or free or reduced-price meals. Others can apply online through August 31.
Draft Transportation Plan Ready for Review
Arlington’s draft Multimodal Transportation Plan is now ready for review. Shaped by two years of community input, the plan outlines proposed policies, strategies, transportation network guidance, and curb lane priorities to help meet Arlington’s evolving transportation needs. Share your feedback by August 23.
Five-Year Review Finds a More Diverse Arlington
A new County report found that Arlington continues to become more diverse, with people of color now making up nearly 40% of the population. The review also highlights persistent racial income gaps, rising educational attainment, improved digital access, and long-term changes in commuting patterns since the pandemic.
