Good afternoon. It’s Wednesday, August 19.

In today's newsletter:

  • Early results in Alaska's primary election show two Democrats leading the governor's race, Democrat Mary Peltola advancing to the general election along with Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan, and strong support for reinstating campaign contribution limits.

  • Anchorage police said an officer shot and killed an armed woman after an hourlong standoff Tuesday afternoon at a downtown apartment building that serves homeless residents.

  • A federal judge voided a land exchange between the federal government and an Alaska Native village corporation, dealing a blow to the Dunleavy administration’s efforts to build a road through the Izembek National Wildlife Refuge. The state plans to appeal.
