Principal Message
Good afternoon Lorton Station families,
It is hard to believe that in four days we will begin a new school year. We are getting ready to start our 2026-2027 school year, and I could not be more excited to welcome Lorton Station students back to school. I am looking forward to serving your children and working collaboratively to make this school year the very best! Get ready for a fantastic year!
Please review all the information in this email; there is a lot to communicate.
Cellphone and Smart Device Policy (New FCPS)
Across all grade levels, FCPS new cellphone policy is that cellphones, phone accessories, and all smart devices (including watches that serve a dual purpose, such as smart watches, as well as airpods, earbuds, headsets, smart glasses, and other other items connected to the internet) must be off and personally stored (i.e., backpacks) for the duration of the school day: bell to bell.
While this is not a change from last year, students and families are also reminded that students are prohibited from using phones, tablets, and other mobile devices in restrooms and locker rooms unless there is a medical necessity or emergency, and that cellphones are not permitted to be used as instructional tool.
Please review additional information on the policy on the FCPS website: https://www.fcps.edu/cellphone-policy
New Student ID Cards and Bus Navigation System
FCPS is launching a new bus navigation system that includes student ID cards for bus riders. Students will use the cards to tap on and off the bus, helping FCPS and families know exactly which students are riding which buses. Learn more about the new system and how it will improve route efficiency, safety, and transparency with families. Check out the frequently asked questions for families.
Early Release Wednesdays
Lorton Station has FOUR Early Release Wednesdays, when school ends at 1:00 PM.
- October 21
- December 2
- February 10
- May 5
Office Procedures
All parents must have a Driver’s License present to check out their child and/or attend meetings at Lorton Station. Only adults listed in SIS are allowed to pick up a child from Lorton Station and must present a Valid ID.
Food and Nutrition
All students attending Lorton Station are eligible to receive a nutritious breakfast and lunch at school at no charge to your household each day of the 2026-2027 school year. You do not have to take any action. Students are offered daily choices of delicious entrees, sides, fruits, and vegetables that meet or exceed nutritional requirements. When your child eats at school, whether for breakfast or lunch, you save time and money. Packed lunches cost between $4 and $5, potentially saving $700 to $800 per school year compared to school meals! Spend less time packing lunches or in the morning breakfast rush and be assured that your child will be fueled to learn at school.
Lunch Procedures
-
Outside Food: Lorton Station does not allow fast food (i.e., McDonald’s, Chipotle, Pizza) to be delivered or brought in by families for lunch.
- Visitors: A child can only have a maximum of two people at lunch
- Students will be allowed only two parent visits for lunch per week.
- Parents will be escorted by staff to the cafeteria and main office for lunch. Parents are not allowed to walk their child back to class or visit the classroom without scheduling an official visit with the administration.
- No outside items are allowed for birthday celebrations.
- Parents may send in store-bought cupcakes to school, and they will be given to the teacher for an end-of-day celebration.
Back to School Night
Lorton Station will host our annual Back-to-School Night on September 1 from 5:45-7:15. This will be the first parent-teacher meeting of the school year. Teachers will share grade-level curriculum and school events with parents.

If you arrive after that time, please park, bring your child to our main entrance (Door #1), and sign them in at the front office (please do not drop them off in our bus loop in front of the school). Note: Fairfax County regulations prohibit parking within ten feet of a driveway.
