Wall Street closed the trading week lower, as the Treasury expanded buybacks, Bitcoin (BTC-USD) surged, and retail earnings hit the tape.

As yields have been advancing, the U.S. Treasury said it will at least double the maximum size of its liquidity-support buybacks of longer-dated nominal coupon securities.

Bitcoin (BTC-USD) observed sharp swings towards the end of the week as the cryptocurrency surged past $77,000 to reach its highest trading level since mid-May, marking a new 3-month high.

Retail earnings continued to roll in all week as traders and investors digested the latest results from major names including Walmart (WMT), Target (TGT), TJX Companies (TJX), Ross Stores (ROST), and several others.

For the week, the blue-chip Dow (DJI) fell -0.85%, the benchmark S&P (SP500) lost -1.43%, and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite (COMP:IND) handed back -2.05%. Read a preview of next week's major events in Seeking Alpha's Catalyst Watch.
