"Notemaking Nerds" Book Excerpt
Although most of the LYT book skews practical, it is fun to dip the toes into the historical.
...Notemaking like this was a core scholarly technology of early modern Europe. To manage their own form of "too much information," synthesizers from as early as the 1500s created bespoke note systems: commonplace books, florilegia, excerpt slips.
John Locke wrote a full treatise in 1685, that when published in English, was called, "A New Method of Making Common-Place-Books," proving that notemaking nerds who enthusiastically want to share their system have existed for centuries.
Trees in the Wind
There are few things with nature that are more peaceful, connective, and enjoyable for me than watching trees move in the wind, especially in the summer months in Montana as a thunderstorm moves in.
Each leaf can look like a bird chirping and moving independently and yet interdependently and in concert with the leaves around them, which is part of a larger concert composing of the other branches around it.
This, when taken on the whole, is an amazingly dense influx of information to observe all at once, the complexity of which cannot really be comprehended. In a single gust, it far surpasses the informational equivalent of my entire ideaverse. Yet, it's the same thing that happens with or without our awareness whenever we are in the presence of nature.
