The stories the Globe Magazine team publishes are just the start of a conversation with our readers. Your reactions, insights, and complaints help us get to know you and what you care about. Starting this week, we’ll highlight a reader letter or comment in each newsletter. The first one comes in response to Ana Kuchment’s profile of Dr. Jeremy Faust. Find more reader comments on magazine stories here. — Veronica Chao, Editor
Jeremy Faust saved my husband’s life in 2019. We arrived at the ER on a Sunday night in a blizzard and were seen by several medical professionals who thought there might be an infection. Not long after, Dr. Faust walked in and immediately diagnosed sepsis. He noted that the samples had not been taken correctly, had them retaken, and immediately started an IV. That early diagnosis helped prevent septic shock, which [often] is fatal. We are forever grateful for his insight. I hope he can continue his medical practice and keep the work/life balance he needs to stay engaged in all he does. No one can ever say a negative word about him to us — he is our hero
