Panic about Islam is spreading. Last year one poll found that 41% of Britons think Muslim immigrants have a negative impact on the country, more than double the figure for any other religious migrant group. But
as our reporting shows,
although Islamism can be considered a threat to Britain, Islam is not.
Some of this panic is translating into votes. Earlier this month the populist-right Alternative for Germany won 44% of the vote in Saxony-Anhalt, warning about “Islamisation”. And in France the current front-runner for next year’s presidential election is Marine Le Pen of the populist-right National Rally.
