To me, one of the things that makes us human is reading. I don’t mean reading for the sake of chunking information and distilling concepts into tidy packages for efficient consumption, like AI does for us.
No, I mean reading books like The Road (a love story) and The Moon and Sixpence (how far can a person go in the honoring of their creative urges) and Train Dreams (a life story).
Books that cause you to think and move you to expand and force you to pay attention and, once in a while, reorder your inner universe.
With this end in mind, I’d like to offer you an exclusive sneak peak into my new book The Robot and The Gardener: Being Fully Human in an Artificial Age.
“Occasionally, the Gardener’s sleeve would move up his arm as he worked, and Niko could see the scars caused by the knife. When the Gardener noticed Niko looking, he did not attempt to hide them. Nor did he ever try to show them off.
He just continued with what he was doing.
‘Some scars we see,’ he said one day. ‘Others we don’t. All of them shape us.’”
You have endured pain. I have too. Maybe yours has come from loss of a love, disappointment from a business or illness of your body. I do not know the depth or the causes of your suffering.
But I do know that, conscious or not, it has left scars. The ego wants to say that these are wrong, as if the path of a life is all butterflies, roses and TikTok dances. Yet the soul knows something wiser: every scar is the result of living (and some daring and you reaching for the stars).
As our world becomes more mechanical and artificial, the wisest way to respond is for you to become more completely human. Yes, to become even more courageous and even more intuitive and even more helpful and even more productive and even more loving.
A mistake ambitious people make as technology rises is that they become more machine-like. You must resist this attraction. And deepen your humanity.
A practice to help you do so: “Stillness Blocks.” First, set some real guardrails on your social media and news consumption. And then replace the time you would have spent (wasted?) with full immersion on stillness, aloneness and quiet.
I spend more time sitting in silence (reflecting or praying or processing or meditating) than ever before. Why? Because as the world gets noisier I seek to become more serene. And more rooted, clear and steady. Does it take some time? Yes—but I don’t have the time not to do it.
And all this is precisely why I created The Fully Human Series: Living with Greater Meaning, Mastery and Freedom in an Artificial Age. The first live teaching starts later this month.
These are not sessions about becoming anti-technology. Not at all.
It is a four-part learning experience designed to help you use the extraordinary possibilities of this new age without surrendering the qualities that make you irreplaceably human.
Over four live sessions, I'll teach you the frameworks, philosophies and practical methods I believe leaders, entrepreneurs and everyday human beings need to do their finest work and live their richest lives in the years ahead.
If this speaks to you, I’d love for you to join us. Here are the details.

I have spent much of my life studying a simple question:
What allows a human being to realize more of their potential while living with greater meaning, mastery and freedom?
I believe that question has never mattered more than it does now.
If that speaks to where you are in your life and work right now, I'd be delighted to have you join me.
Join The Fully Human Sessions here.
Very best wishes,
Robin
