Here’s a pattern we’ve noticed from the last 30+ years:
- In the 1990s, when Photoshop was first invented, legacy graphic designers started losing out on job opportunities to designers who became proficient in using this new technology.
- In the 2000s, when blogging platforms like WordPress came out, legacy writers started losing out on job opportunities to Internet-forward “bloggers” who learned how to use this new technology.
- In the 2010s, when Instagram launched, legacy photographers started losing out on job opportunities to mobile-first iPhone photographers who learned how to use this new technology.
And in the 2020s, in the age of AI, anyone who fails to learn how to use these new technologies will lose out on job opportunities to those who do.
