Hi Subscriber,
We were really two organisations. The Carbonauts was a training company — we worked with sustainability teams at Amazon, AT&T, Chanel, Microsoft and Toyota, among others. Alongside it we ran a nonprofit foundation, and that's what put on the gatherings: hundreds of events, anywhere from fifty to two hundred and fifty people, plus close to a hundred dinners of fifteen or twenty, the kind where people actually talk.
Those were great, and we were proud of what they added up to — a real community built around sustainability. I've had notes from people who found collaborators at them, or jobs, or friends.
It was always hard. Then the current administration's posture on climate made it impossible. The appetite inside big companies didn't cool, it vanished, and it went faster than anyone I know expected.
So that's done. But I'm not.
I'm moving to Substack and writing under my own name from here on. Every couple of months to start, and if it takes, maybe as often as weekly. Things I've found interesting, inspiring, or worth arguing with — still within sustainability, and a good deal more personal than a company newsletter could ever be.
If you'd like these emails to land in your inbox, hit "I'm interested" below. If you'd rather not hear from me, unsubscribe. Both are completely fine.
Thank you for reading. Some of you for a very long time.
