Dear friends and colleagues:
The CFR Global Inflation Tracker is updated.
Inflation has risen sharply over the past year—from 2.9 to 3.4 percent in the U.S., and from 2 to 3.2 percent in the eurozone. Higher energy prices, driven by the military stalemate in the Strait of Hormuz, are fueling the increase. Energy-intensive sectors, most notably transportation—up 6.2 percent in the U.S., and 7.7 percent in the eurozone—have been the most affected, but goods and services further downstream, such as food, are also seeing rising price pressures through their supply chains. Central banks are responding by raising interest rates, as illustrated in our CFR Global Monetary Policy Tracker.
Please also check out our regularly updated trackers for Central Bank Currency Swaps, Global Imbalances, Global Growth, Global Trade, Global Energy, and Sovereign Risk.
