Message from Principal Simmons

Hello Eagles,

It has been an incredible, fun-filled Homecoming week at Edison High School!

Our students brought amazing energy and school spirit all week long with our daily themes: "A Night in Rio" on Monday, "Princesses vs. Pirates" on Tuesday, "Dress in Every Direction" on Thursday, and a strong finish with Class Colors Day today. We also had an absolute blast with our mid-week traditions: on Wednesday evening, the Juniors triumphed in the Eagle Bowl, and on Thursday night, the Seniors clinched first place in our annual Follies.

Amidst the themed days, we also want to commend our students for their focus and hard work during Wednesday’s PSAT/SAT testing, which went smoothly for all participants.

We wrapped up the school week today with an energetic and fantastic pep rally. The celebration now continues tonight with our Homecoming football game, followed by our Homecoming dance tomorrow night!

Looking ahead to next week, schools will be closed on Monday, October 12, 2026. Additionally, our seniors will have their senior panoramic picture taken on Wednesday. As always, thank you for your continued support, and please reach out with any questions, feedback, or concerns.

Have a wonderful weekend, and Eagle Pride!

Justin Simmons

Principal, Edison High School

Last week, our talented combined Edison choirs sang alongside Twain Middle School. Such a sweet moment and a great picture captured by Eric Steiner.

IBDP Survey

Edison Parents and Guardians,

Ms. Devers, your IB Diploma Coordinator, needs your help! Thomas A. Edison High School offers both the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme and Diploma Programme, and our school is currently undergoing an evaluation by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO). Parents and guardians of Diploma Programme (DP) students—primarily students in 11th and 12th grades—we want to hear from you!

Your feedback is an important part of this evaluation and will help us identify strengths and opportunities to improve IB programming at Edison. Please take a few minutes to complete the IB DP Parent/Guardian Survey linked in this message by October 22. Your perspective matters and will help us continue to strengthen the IB experience for our students and families. Thank you for your time, feedback, and support of the IB Programme at Edison! Become a Student Mentor

Mentoring is one of the most impactful ways to support our students. We are always looking for caring adults who can volunteer once a week on school grounds during school hours. Training is provided for all new mentors. Interested in volunteering, or learning more? Contact Sarah Kelly, On-Time Graduation Resource Teacher, at skelly@fcps.edu.

Registration is not required, but it helps with planning.

Share Your Feedback on Traveling to and From School

The FCPS Office of Safety and Security and Safe Routes to School program are asking families to share their experiences traveling to and from their child’s school. The feedback will help inform the Fairfax County School Board’s annual assessment of traffic and pedestrian safety near schools.

The Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Survey asks about walking and biking routes, traffic near schools, kiss-and-ride experiences, accessibility, and other safety concerns.

Your feedback will help FCPS identify common issues. Your responses will be kept confidential and shared with school administrators and the Office of Safety and Security. The five-minute survey is open through Thursday, October 15.

Be sure to identify the school related to your feedback and include specific locations where you have observed a safety issue. If you have students at different schools in FCPS, please complete a different survey for each school.

If you have any questions about the survey, please contact SafeRoutestoSchool@fcps.edu.

Edison Families: Explore SafeWalkr!

FCPS Safe Routes to School is excited to invite Edison families to try SafeWalkr, a new interactive walking map tool developed by Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology students in collaboration with our team!

If you live within Edison's designated walking boundary, explore information about sidewalks, road crossings, and crossing guard locations to help plan your walk to school.

Go to the SafeWalkr tool, select Edison High School, and explore a route with your child. Review current conditions and consider your child’s abilities and supervision needs before walking. The tool does not change walking boundaries or transportation eligibility. Help us improve SafeWalkr by sharing your feedback during the pilot. Thank you for supporting safe, active trips to school!

EAGLES WIN! What a great night for Edison Field Hockey! The Eagles came out strong and earned a win this week!

Weapons Screening at Football Games

The standard bag policy for weapons screening at varsity football games has been updated. Fanny packs are no longer on the list of prohibited bags, provided that they fit within the measurements of a “small clutch bag.”

Celebrating the Power of School Lunches

Multiple studies show that school lunches are important in supporting overall student health by improving students’ diets and combating food insecurity. Students who eat school lunches consume more fruit, vegetables, and fiber than their peers.

This National School Lunch Week, FCPS Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) reminds families that they are dedicated to providing delicious, healthy, sustainable, and student-focused meals. New menu items have been launched this year based on student feedback.

Want to know what’s for breakfast or lunch? View the Nutrition Services menus.

Immunization Events for FCPS Students

FCPS, in partnership with Inspire Health Alliance, will be providing school-required immunizations and optional flu shots for all FCPS students, ages 18 and under, with no out-of-pocket costs. Multiple events will take place at designated FCPS locations.

Additional dates will be made available throughout the school year. Parents or guardians may view upcoming events and schedule an appointment for their student. Participation is voluntary. Additional immunization resources are available.

Message from our Family Liaisons

Food for Neighbor’s Red Bag Program

Food For Neighbors helps keep the Edison High School pantry stocked by collecting food donations from our community five times each school year. The donated food is sorted and delivered directly to local schools including Edison to support students experiencing food insecurity.

Becoming a Red Bag Donor is easy:

  1. Request a reusable Red Bag for home delivery.
  2. Fill it with the requested food items.
  3. Place it outside for pickup on the collection day.

The next collection is Saturday, October 24th. To participate or volunteer, visit the Food For Neighbors Red Bag Program.
