Principal's Message
Next week is filled with excitement as we lead up to Homecoming! Our SGA students and advisors have been working hard to plan a memorable week for our entire community, starting with Spirit Week on Tuesday. Our staff always loves getting into the spirit—sometimes even showing up the students—and it’s always a highlight of the week!
On Friday, we will begin the morning with our traditional hallway parade. To accommodate our high school afternoon pep rally without impacting our lunch schedules, we will follow an adjusted Gold Day period order. We will begin the day in Period 8, followed by Period 4 and Period 6. Students will attend their normal Gold Day lunch assignments during their regular lunch period, and following Period 6, high school students will head to Period 2 before transitioning to the Pep Rally. Middle School students will have their normal Advisory and Bruin Block during that last block of the day.
The evening festivities kick off at 4:45 PM with the Homecoming Parade, stepping off from the Shure Community Center parking lot, proceeding down Lake Braddock Drive, and ending at the school. Immediately following the parade, please join us as we gather around The Bears to celebrate their complete restoration by original designer and builder, Chris Goutos!
From there, head over to the blacktop for Bite of Braddock before taking your seats in the stadium. Be sure to arrive early—our Lake Braddock Marching Bruins will perform a special pre-game show you won't want to miss!

FCPS Impact Awards
One of the things I most enjoy about this job is getting to share special recognitions of our staff. Earlier this week, our Family Liasion, Alejandra Pena-Ulloa, received the Individual Impact Award from FCPS. Here is what was shared:
Alejandra is a champion for equity. She transcends translation to become a vital navigator for families. Alejandra revitalized the Hispanic Parent Group, growing it from 10 to more than 40 families. She has established a strategic partnership with Edu-Futuro to launch parent and college-readiness programs. By removing digital barriers and proactively creating bilingual resources, she has ensured that parents are empowered advocates. She provides students support so that they have a choice in their future. Her tireless, patient leadership makes her a community pillar. Congratulations, Alejandra!

Boundary Study Community Meeting on October 14
Fairfax County Public Schools is holding a final community meeting related to the boundary study for Rolling Valley Elementary School student planning area (SPA) 8922 middle and high school feeders, and Keene Mill Elementary School attendance island and surrounding schools (e.g., Cardinal Forest and White Oaks elementary schools).
Based on community engagement and feedback on the revised draft scenarios shared in September, FCPS staff is recommending to the superintendent that no changes be made to the Rolling Valley Elementary School boundary.
A final community meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 14, from 6 to 7 p.m., at Cardinal Forest Elementary School. FCPS staff will provide an update on the Keene Mill, Cardinal Forest, and White Oaks portion of the boundary study and gather community feedback. Share Your Feedback on Traveling to and From School
The FCPS Office of Safety and Security and Safe Routes to School program are asking families to share their experiences traveling to and from their child’s school. The feedback will help inform the Fairfax County School Board’s annual assessment of traffic and pedestrian safety near schools.
The Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Survey asks about walking and biking routes, traffic near schools, kiss-and-ride experiences, accessibility, and other safety concerns.
Your feedback will help FCPS identify common issues. Your responses will be kept confidential and shared with school administrators and the Office of Safety and Security. The five-minute survey is open through Thursday, October 15.
Be sure to identify the school related to your feedback and include specific locations where you have observed a safety issue. If you have students at different schools in FCPS, please complete a different survey for each school.
If you have any questions about the survey, please contact SafeRoutestoSchool@fcps.edu.

Cell Phone Policy
Due to a new VA law passed earlier this year, FCPS has implemented a “bell-to-bell” phone-free policy across all grade levels. This means no cell phones, cell phone accessories, and smart devices (including AirPods, earbuds, headsets, and smart glasses) must be turned off and personally stored in a backpack or locker away by all students for the entire school day.
If you need to reach your student for any reason during the school day, please call their subschool and they will relay a message for you.
