A Note from Dr. Goodloe:

Hello, Chantilly Families and Students,

What a wonderful week at Chantilly! We had a successful PSAT/SAT day, assessing over 1,800 students! Our schoolwide Wellness Fair gave students and staff a well-deserved break during homeroom. The fair brought our community together for outdoor activities on the field, arts and crafts such as jewelry and slime making, line dancing, and a visit from service dogs in training. We emphasize building breaks into the school year to support everyone’s social-emotional health and well-being. We also welcomed young adult fantasy author Cassandra James, who spoke with more than 200 9th grade and creative writing students about her novels Capitana and Libertad and her journey as a published author. In a conversation guided by student-generated questions from GMU folklorist and associate professor Debra Lattanzi Shutika, James encouraged students with this reminder: “The only difference between a dreamer and an author is someone who didn’t give up.”

Continue to dream big Chargers!  Enjoy the long weekend and we look forward to seeing our students back at Chantilly on Tuesday for an "A" day.

EARLY DISMISSAL PROCEDURE REMINDERS:

If your early dismissal request for your student is submitted to the Attendance Office by 10:00 A.M., you do not have to enter the building for your student to be released. You may choose to remain in your vehicle or wait outside the building. Your student will be issued a physical check-out pass that allows them to leave the building on their own.

Students are required to show their check-out pass to their class period teacher to be released from class and/or exit the school building at their scheduled dismissal time.

It is the student’s responsibility to pick up their pass during:

  • A hallway transition time (in-between classes)
  • Before 11:20 A.M. (before lunches start)

Please remind your student of their scheduled early dismissal and to pick up their pass. The Attendance Office cannot provide reminders to each student with an early dismissal. Thank you!

Let’s make 2026–2027 an outstanding year as we Carry the CHARGE together. I look forward to connecting with you at Chantilly very soon.

Thanks,

Amy Goodloe, Ed.D., Principal

Marching Band, Drumline, and Color Guard Practice

When the parking lot between the school and baseball field is being used by the Marching Band, Drumline, and Color Guard for practice (generally after school between 3:30 to 9 p.m.), please do not drive on any part of it.  This boundary is marked by cones and barriers while these teams practice and driving into this area risks both the safety of our students as well as potential damage to the team’s instruments, equipment, and electronics.  A map outlining this boundary is included below.

2026-27 AP Test Registration, Opt-Out Timeline, and Fees

As part of the FCPS Approved Budget, the fees for the first six AP tests taken for courses in which students are enrolled for high school credit will be paid for by FCPS. Students taking AP tests without enrolling in the corresponding FCPS course are responsible for the test fee(s).

FCPS encourages all students to take AP tests for courses in which they are enrolled. However, students will have the opportunity to opt out of the test(s) by filling out an Opt Out form to be provided by Homeroom teachers. To assist in the decision-making process, students will be provided a report with their previous tests and current AP course enrollment.

Regardless of FCPS opt out decision, students enrolled in any AP course must register for their associated AP test(s) in AP Classroom by October 30th. Instructions for this process have been provided by classroom teachers. Students who register after this date may incur a $40 late registration fee. Students who do not register by March 12th will not be able to take the exam(s) and applicable assessed exam fees will not be refunded.

AP students must make Opt Out decisions by October 30th. Student accounts will be billed in December for tests that exceed the six FCPS-funded tests. The nonrefundable fees are $99 per AP exam.

Share Your Feedback on Traveling to and From School

The FCPS Office of Safety and Security and Safe Routes to School program are asking families to share their experiences traveling to and from their child’s school. The feedback will help inform the Fairfax County School Board’s annual assessment of traffic and pedestrian safety near schools.

The Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Survey asks about walking and biking routes, traffic near schools, kiss-and-ride experiences, accessibility, and other safety concerns.

Your feedback will help FCPS identify common issues. Your responses will be kept confidential and shared with school administrators and the Office of Safety and Security. The five-minute survey is open through Thursday, October 15.

Be sure to identify the school related to your feedback and include specific locations where you have observed a safety issue. If you have students at different schools in FCPS, please complete a different survey for each school.

If you have any questions about the survey, please contact SafeRoutestoSchool@fcps.edu.

Calendar Update and Family Feedback

Calendar Change: Eid al-Fitr

FCPS will mark the beginning of Eid al-Fitr with an evening-only observance day on Monday, March 8. There will be school on this day, but major school-sponsored events and activities (such as auditions or tryouts) will not take place.

Tuesday, March 9, will be a holiday for students and staff.

Wednesday, March 10, will be an observance day. There will be school on this day, but certain activities that cannot be made up (major tests, field trips, or mandatory events) will not take place.

A new school year calendar has been published, which includes this change. Please note that holidays and observances on the calendar may shift due to anticipated lunar sightings.

Safe Routes to School Parent and Caregiver Survey

As part of the Fairfax County School Board’s Annual School-Based Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Assessment, the FCPS Office of Safety and Security and Safe Routes to School program are inviting parents and caregivers to share their experiences traveling to and from school.

The Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Survey asks about walking and biking routes, traffic near schools, kiss and ride experiences, accessibility, and other safety concerns.

Senator Stella Pekarsky's 2027 Youth Leadership Program

High School Leadership Program

Virginia State Senator Stella Pekarsky is offering students the opportunity to participate in their High School Leadership Program this upcoming legislative session! This program gives high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to visit Richmond during the General Assembly's legislative session and learn about political leadership on the state level. Students will be able to observe committee hearings and floor debate, take a tour of the state capitol, participate in panels with lobbyists, advocates, and political leaders, as well meet lawmakers and their staff. This is a great opportunity for students considering a future career in government, politics, or law - but all are encouraged to apply.

The application is open to junior and senior students until Sunday, November 25 at 6:00 p.m. Spots are limited, so students should expect to be notified about their status following the closing of the application. Please note that priority will be given to students who reside within the 36th Senate District of Virginia.  This s the link to the application, including more details and program dates: Stella Pekarsky's 2027 High School Youth Leadership Program Application

Please note that this is a free program and students will be provided with transportation, lodging, and meals at no cost to them or their families.
