Turn Restrictions at Military Road Roundabout

Due to unforeseen restriction of space at the Military Road Roundabout, the project team needs to close a portion of the intersection of Military Road and Nelly Custis Road starting on Monday, October 12 for two full weeks, weather permitting. The closures are necessary to give crews room to build the roundabout structure.

During this period, look out for these closures and open lanes:

  • Open - northbound traffic from Nelly Custis Drive onto Military Road
  • Open - southbound traffic from Military Road continuing on Military Road
  • Closed - eastbound traffic from Military Road to Nelly Custis Road
  • Closed - southbound traffic from Nelly Custis Road to Military Road
  • No driveways will be affected by this traffic pattern change.
  • Sidewalks will remain open for pedestrian and bike traffic

To aid in the detouring traffic, there will be an All Way Stop at the intersection of Nelly Custis Road and Lorcom Lane.

ART Bus 56 and Arlington Public School buses are implementing their own detours to avoid the lanes closures.

The project is on track to be completed before the end of 2026. Learn more on the project page.

Right Turns Reopen on South Clark Street

Starting Monday, October 12, the right-turn northbound access to South Clark Street will open from westbound 15th Street South.

Traffic from South Bell Street or from eastbound 15th Street South will need to U-turn at Crystal Drive.

Southbound South Clark Street will remain closed while the lanes are under construction.

About the Project

This project will connect South Clark Street and South Bell Street to form a new fully signalized intersection at 15th Street South. The project includes improved bike infrastructure on 15th Street South, a paved path along South Clark-Bell Street from 12th Street South to 18th Street South, and will realign 14th Road South to connect to Crystal Drive.

Help shape the future of Carlin Springs Road

DES - Carlin Springs Studies

Arlington County is conducting two simultaneous studies of Carlin Springs Road and wants your input on your experiences and challenges you face while traveling on Carlin Springs Road.

The studies divide Carlin Springs into south and north sections:

  • South: from the County line/8th Street South to Arlington Boulevard
  • North: from Arlington Boulevard to North Wakefield Street

What will Arlington do with this feedback?

The studies will help the County staff develop recommendations and concepts for projects to improve the safety and comfort of people who travel on Carlin Springs Road, whether on foot, by bike, bus or driving.

How can I participate?

Share your experiences through the online feedback form through October 20. Learn more on the study page.

We’re talking about snow in October?

You betcha.

We’ve been known to get some hefty snowfall in Arlington. And when it happens, some of our most vulnerable neighbors may not be able to clear snow from in front of their homes.

It may look pretty, but snow-covered sidewalks can be dangerous for people walking or using wheelchairs, especially when it freezes over and creates a slippery surface.

Be good teammate through the pilot Snow Buddies Program. Volunteers will be paired with neighbors who are older adults or homebound to help with snow removal efforts.

Join the Volunteer Arlington interest list through Friday, October 9.
