Dear Mantua families,
We started our week with an amazing visit from Margaret Peterson Haddix, a seasoned writer and author of more than 50 books for children and teens! Our 5th and 6th graders were enthralled by the stories she shared. We love having opportunities like this to bring our learning to life!
We also welcomed our surprise visitor, Rocky the Raccoon, as we kick off the Mantua PTA Run for Rocky event! Rocky’s fun energy spread school spirit through the building, and our students couldn’t be more excited for the big event next Friday! Be sure to send your child with comfortable running/walking shoes that day. This PTA fundraiser helps purchase materials and supplies for classroom and building needs. You can find more information below.
For the coming week:
- Monday, October 12 is a teacher training day and student holiday for Indigenous Peoples’ Day. We will welcome students back on Tuesday, October 13.
- Next week is our Run for Rocky Spirit Week! Our themed days are listed below.
- Friday, October 16 is our Run for Rocky event! Times are listed below.
Have a wonderful and restful weekend!

Mantua Family Engagement Survey
At Mantua, we value our partnership with families and want to create opportunities for us to learn and grow together.
This year, we are planning quarterly Family Workshops to provide opportunities for families to learn more about our school, FCPS programs, and ways to support student success. Workshops will be offered both in person and virtually, depending on the topic and family interest. Some sessions may also include breakout discussions to allow families to connect, ask questions, and share ideas.
We would love your input!
Please complete this brief survey to help us identify the topics that are most interesting and useful to your family. Your feedback will help us plan workshops that reflect the needs and interests of our Mantua community. This survey should take less than 5 minutes of your time.
Thank you for being our partners in learning!

Mantua PTA Run for Rocky Event
Get ready for one of the most exciting and cherished events at Mantua Elementary School — Run for Rocky! The 2026 World Cup-inspired theme is: Ready, Set, Goal! This fantastic fundraiser, hosted by the Mantua PTA, is a fun run around Mantua's track that brings together students, families, and community members for healthy fun, school spirit, and community connection. Funds will go towards playground upgrades, updated and flexible classroom furniture, beautifying our outdoor spaces, new books, staff appreciation items, the PTA wish fund, fun social events, upgraded technology and learning resources, and much more! Families and friends can support the run by making a donation in recognition of their student(s), or by pledging a student for every lap they run. Run for Rocky detailed flyers were sent home in Tuesday folders.

Share Your Feedback on Traveling to and From School
The FCPS Office of Safety and Security and Safe Routes to School program are asking families to share their experiences traveling to and from their child’s school. The feedback will help inform the Fairfax County School Board’s annual assessment of traffic and pedestrian safety near schools.
The Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Survey asks about walking and biking routes, traffic near schools, kiss-and-ride experiences, accessibility, and other safety concerns.
Your feedback will help FCPS identify common issues. Your responses will be kept confidential and shared with school administrators and the Office of Safety and Security. The five-minute survey is open through Thursday, October 15.
Be sure to identify the school related to your feedback and include specific locations where you have observed a safety issue. If you have students at different schools in FCPS, please complete a different survey for each school.
If you have any questions about the survey, please contact SafeRoutestoSchool@fcps.edu.
Immunization Events for FCPS Students
FCPS, in partnership with Inspire Health Alliance, will be providing school-required immunizations and optional flu shots for all FCPS students, ages 18 and under, with no out-of-pocket costs. Multiple events will take place at designated FCPS locations.
Additional dates will be made available throughout the school year. Parents or guardians may view upcoming events and schedule an appointment for their student. Participation is voluntary. Additional immunization resources are available.
