A Note from the Principal

Happy Friday Daniels Run Families!

Today was a beautiful day for Fall Field Day, and our students had so much fun! A huge shout-out to our PE team, Mrs. Heffron and Mr. Heslep. Field Day takes tremendous planning and coordination, and we are grateful for all they did to make it such a success.

Thank you as well to the Daniels Run families who volunteered. The day would not have been possible without you. We also appreciate the GMU men’s baseball team for volunteering and helping make the day special for our students.

We are also proud to share two exciting updates about Daniels Run Elementary.

Purple Star Award
Daniels Run has been named a 2026–2027 Purple Star Award recipient for our support of military-connected students and families. This designation is valid for three school years, and we are honored to receive this recognition.

Accreditation Update
Daniels Run remains fully accredited and meets state expectations. Our school’s Framework score rose 5.9 points to 89.4, just 0.1 point below the Distinguished level. SOL scores have also increased over the past two years. Thank you to our students, staff, and families for the hard work behind this progress.

School Planning Day – Monday, October 12
There will be no school for students on Monday. The school office will be open.

Thank you for being part of our Daniels Run community. Have a wonderful weekend!

Share Your Feedback on Traveling to and From School

The FCPS Office of Safety and Security and Safe Routes to School program are asking families to share their experiences traveling to and from their child’s school. The feedback will help inform the Fairfax County School Board’s annual assessment of traffic and pedestrian safety near schools.

The Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Survey asks about walking and biking routes, traffic near schools, kiss-and-ride experiences, accessibility, and other safety concerns.

Your feedback will help FCPS identify common issues. Your responses will be kept confidential and shared with school administrators and the Office of Safety and Security. The five-minute survey is open through Thursday, October 15.

Be sure to identify the school related to your feedback and include specific locations where you have observed a safety issue. If you have students at different schools in FCPS, please complete a different survey for each school.

If you have any questions about the survey, please contact SafeRoutestoSchool@fcps.edu.

Generation Supply

Generation Supply is a student-led initiative founded by Fairfax High School students with the objective of ensuring no student falls behind due to a lack of school supplies. The organization collects and redistributes essential items to over 1,400 students from low-income families attending high-need Title 1 schools in FCPS. Daniels Run is proud to support their mission from September 21 to October 16 by collecting donations in the box located at our main entrance office. We are accepting 1.5–2 inch binders, composition notebooks, #2 pencils, colored pencils, crayons, scissors, glue sticks, sticky notes, pencil pouches, dry erase markers, and any extra school supplies you may have. Every pencil counts and every notebook matters—together, we can ensure every child has the tools they need to achieve academic excellence!
