 ROCKET DAY WAS A BLAST!!!
Principal Message
Dear Lorton Station Families,
It has been an exciting week at Lorton Station! As we continue working together to support our students’ academic growth and overall well-being, we are pleased to share a few important updates and celebrations with our school community.
We Are a Purple Star School!
Lorton Station Elementary is proud to have been recognized by the Virginia Department of Education and the Virginia Council on the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children as a 2026 Purple Star School! The Purple Star designation is awarded to military-friendly schools that have demonstrated their commitment to meeting the needs of military-connected students and their families. This is our first time receiving this distinguished recognition.
Rocket Day Was a Blast!
Rocket Day was an incredible experience! Our Roadrunners saw handmade student rockets from our 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade classes take flight with help from our staff and students. The joy of hearing our students scream at the launch, and sometimes at aborted launches, was worth every moment of vinegar splash. If you want directions for creating your own rocket, we can share them with you.
Virginia SPSF Scores Are Available
Virginia’s School Performance and Support Framework (SPSF) scores are now available. These scores provide families and school communities with information about school performance and areas of strength and growth. We encourage families to review the information and learn more about how schools support student achievement and continuous improvement.
At Lorton Station, we remain committed to providing high-quality instruction, meaningful learning experiences, and a supportive environment where every Roadrunner can thrive.
Have a Great Day,
Dr. Legagneur, Ms. Champion, Mr. Barton
SHOW UP AND SHINE ATTENDANCE CHALLENGE
Lorton Station has launched our SHOW UP AND SHINE Attendance Challenge with a special emphasis on our Attendance Spirit Week. Strong attendance is vital to every student's academic and emotional well-being. When a child misses 10% or more of school each year, it significantly affects their ability to develop as a reader, build critical thinking skills, become a writer, and understand complex math concepts. We want to partner with our families to join our SHOW UP AND SHINE Challenge to ensure your child maintains a 90% or higher attendance every month.
Monday: Favorite Hat Day
Tuesday: Twin Day
Wednesday: College or Professional Day

Lorton Station Anti-Bullying Week
Each year, the National Bullying Prevention Center provides resources to help schools recognize Bullying Prevention Month and promote kindness, inclusion, and respect. This year, Lorton Station Elementary will celebrate Anti-Bullying Week from October 26–30, with Unity Day on Wednesday, October 28! |
