NYRB Wins Easton Smith’s Debut
Alex Andriesse at NYRB won U.S. rights to Levitations by Easton Smith from Sandra Pareja at Massie McQuilkin & Altman. The first American debut novel to be published by NYRB, the book hinges on a collision of four characters in the fictional, post-industrial New England mill town of Leefield, known for its asteroid impact site turned gold mine, now home to cults and “space rock” investors. Rights have also been sold in France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, and the U.K., among other territories. A February 2027 release is set.
Seven Stories Signs Paul Auster Biography
Dan Simon acquired world rights, excluding France, Spain, and Germany, to The Mechanics of Reality: Paul Auster’s Life and Work by Jennifer Bartlett from Jessica Craig at Craig Literary. A fall 2029 release is planned.
Authors Equity to Publish Book by James Clear, NASA’s ‘Artemis II’ Crew
The Atomic Habits author will team with the four astronauts to “translate the lessons” of their mission. Madeline McIntosh acquired North American rights from Lisa DiMona at Writers House and Cait Hoyt at CAA, for a fall 2028 release.
James Patterson, Arnold Schwarzenegger to Team on Thriller
Denise Roy at Little, Brown acquired North American rights to The Protector, which marks Schwarzenegger’s fiction debut, scheduled for October 2027. Albert Lee at UTA represented Patterson and Byrd Leavell at UTA represented Schwarzenegger.

Among this week’s offerings are Shadreck Chirikure’s sweeping historical survey, How Africa Made the World; Destiny Birdsong’s If I Told You, I’d Have to Kill You, centered on an organization that punishes perpetrators of violence against women; and Material Evidence, a memoir by Scottish actor Tilda Swinton organized around various objects in her life.

New projects this week include Kim Johnson’s YA thriller Lucky No. 8, in which a teen girl enters a high-stakes competition under AI surveillance to attend a new elite university founded by tech moguls; Survive the Story, an interactive middle grade series by Amie Kaufman and Lili Wilkinson that challenges readers to choose a character, pick a path, and solve puzzles to navigate hundreds of deadly scenarios; and Beast Racers by Rob Justus, a litRPG graphic novel series in which a boy is swept into the e-sports world of Beast Racers, the VR game he's never been allowed to play.
