Hey there,

As of this month, I've coached over 50 developers who wanted to become solo consultants. It's taught me a lot about how to move people from knowing how to do something to actually taking action.

After a while, I noticed a pattern. People I coached were getting stuck in the same five places. Ironically, it was due to habits that make us good employees!

One of these places they got stuck surprised me. It wasn't a fear of talking to people. It was this:

They were showing up to their first conversation with a potential client like it was a job interview.

You know, where you feel like you need to know every answer or you don't get the job. It makes sense when you're being evaluated as a long-term hire.

But in an initial consulting conversation, it works against you. When you approach someone you know as a consultant, your job is to ask, not to answer.

In this episode on the YouTube channel, I walk through all five of these sticky situations, and how to get out of them.
