Burnham rules out Green pact

It's been a busy day for the prime minister in Westminster, with Andy Burnham having met Volodymyr Zelensky and faced with his first PMQs since parliament returned.

The prime minister used his time at the despatch box to address one of the biggest political stories of the last two weeks - the Green Party's motion declaring 'Zionism is racism'.

Challenged on the policy during questions, Mr Burnham said he condemned the motion and would not support a “partnership” with Zack Polanski’s party while it remained in place.

His comments were welcomed after pressure had mounted in Labour for him to make a clear statement on the Greens and rule out a future coalition.

The position raises questions about the next general election, with polls suggesting a centre left coalition is the most likely outcome.

Mr Burnham's conference pledge for electoral reform complicates the issue further, with a more proportional system more likely to lead to coalitions.
