As a freelance journalist with several decades of experience, my career has been spent reporting inspiring or faith-filled stories for regional magazines, Christian television, and newspapers. A forty-nine-year-old local woman’s brutal slaying at the hands of a young neighborhood man — whom she had only ever tried to help — certainly didn’t fit into the inspirational category.

It seemed cruel and insensitive to ask the murder victim’s heartbroken parents if they wanted to recount their tragic tale. But the thought that I should contact Debra Henderson’s family wouldn’t go away. Through the years, I have interviewed numerous grief-stricken individuals. It amazes me how publicly sharing about the good or purpose resulting from their loss frequently comforts the loved ones left behind. (Keep reading)
