Searching for Colombia’s Missing Persons

Join USIP and the Embassy of Colombia for a public presentation on the Missing Persons Search Unit’s remarkable forensic and restorative work, as well as the launch of a temporary photo exhibit detailing the unit’s search efforts. Both the presentation and exhibit will illustrate all facets of the holistic search process— from DNA sampling in sterile laboratories to long, sweat-soaked afternoons digging at mass grave sites and candlelit vigils for victims who have been finally laid to rest.

Those who attend this public event in person will also be among the first to view the full photo exhibit in USIP’s Great Hall.

Named in honor of George Washington, who was famously eulogized as “first in war, first in peace, first in the hearts of his countrymen,” this annual series was created to engage and learn from our miliary veterans. This year’s program will explore our military’s recent contributions in conflict and post-conflict areas and examine how stability and democracy can lead to better peace and security in a region.
