Meet the speakers:

Simon Brownhill

University of Bristol


Simon teaches on the MSc Education programme and supervises students at doctoral level (EdD/PhD). He has 20 years of experience in higher education, working in institutions that include the University of Derby and the University of Cambridge. His research/writing interests include adult learning/training, creative assessment, self-reflection, education in Australasia, children's writing and behaviour management, and men in the early years.

Kelly Edmunds

University of East Anglia


Kelly is an associate professor at the University of East Anglia where she is also deputy teaching director and a university teaching fellow and was recipient of the 2022 Sir Geoffrey and Lady Allen prize for excellence in teaching. She leads the student belonging community of practice, which hosts an annual conference to share sector-wide best practice on student belonging, and has published articles and book chapters covering student engagement and student belonging.

Gary Burnett

Loughborough University


Gary is a professor of digital creativity who teaches and conducts research in the area of human factors and human-computer interaction. He has taught hundreds of students on the use of new immersive technologies in design, where he has pioneered the use of social VR as a means to teach students over extended periods in persistent and fantastical virtual worlds. He has recently been exploring the use of new hologram-based technologies for ‘beaming in’ guest lecturers to campus from across the globe.
