The rain is hours away, but the radar is looking bleak. Fear not and trust in the process. Our upper-level storm system to the west will spawn a whole new storm off of New Jersey late tonight and fill it with rain. Our rain. That is likely to put a dent in the drought with some spots topping one inch!

It will be exactly two months since our last soaking. On Sept. 21, Boston picked up .90” of rain from a storm system. We’ve had small (and negligible) amounts since then, but we’re long overdue for an autumn storm.

Gusty winds will accompany the wet weather Thursday. Top speeds will be around 40 mph Thursday night, then shut down on Friday morning.

Just 20 games into his third season as Boston’s head coach, Jim Montgomery was fired by the Bruins on Tuesday, and we’re expecting to learn more Wednesday about the change of leadership on the ice.

With the team having a rough start to the season, something needed to happen. But while some fans say this shakeup could spark the B’s, others are questioning if Montgomery was really the one to blame.

Montgomery, 55, was in the final year of his contract. General Manager Don Sweeney said he is a very good NHL coach and an even better person but the team’s inconsistency and performance in the first 20 games of the season has been concerning — the Bruins have only won 8 games.

BOSTON — Al Horford turned back the clock Tuesday night to help the Boston Celtics hand the Cleveland Cavaliers their first loss of the season.

The 38-year-old big man stepped up to give the C’s 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting (4-5 3-PT). He added seven rebounds and three blocks for an all-around outstanding performance in Boston’s 120-117 NBA Cup victory at TD Garden, which snapped Cleveland’s 15-game win streak to open the campaign. He is the oldest player in NBA history to log 20 points, four 3-pointers, and three blocks in a game, according to Taylor Snow of Celtics.com.

Horford set a season-high in points for the second consecutive game after tallying 18 in Saturday’s overtime win vs. the Toronto Raptors, when he shot 5-of-10 from 3-point range. That makes him 9-for-15 from beyond the arc over his last two games.

Airplane food might soon get a little tastier.

Delta Airlines has announced a new partnership with Shake Shack that will allow some of its passengers to order the chain’s famed cheeseburgers on some flights beginning in December. 

The partnership is set to kick off on Dec. 1 and will allow first-class passengers on long-distance flights to pre-order Shake Shack cheeseburgers to be served in-flight, the airline said in a press release.

The Massachusetts State Police have disciplined the former head of a unit that investigated Karen Read, making him forfeit six days of accrued leave after an internal investigation.

Col. Geoffrey Noble announced Tuesday evening that Det. Lt. Brian Tully, who formerly led the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office’s detective unit, was found to have violated department rules and regulations.

Tully was transferred out of the unit last month. State police said Tuesday that he had failed to supervise or discipline unit members “who were involved with inappropriate text messages relative to an ongoing homicide investigation.”
