| | Good morning, Chicago. Notorious former Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has been in the news lately after political commentator David Axelrod floated him as a possibility for chair of the Democratic National Committee. Today, we have two pieces examining whether it is a good idea to let Emanuel run the show now that Jaime Harrison is stepping down. Columnist Laura Washington writes in her piece that Emanuel as DNC chair is a nonstarter. He is not only despised by progressives, but also the Democrats’ most loyal base — African Americans. Former journalist Andy Shaw thinks Emanuel is perfect for the job because of his long history as a political operative. Democrats need him to “work his magic one more time,” Shaw writes. The future of one of the most affordable airlines, Spirit, is unknown after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. The airline has been undermined by competitors that began offering cheaper seats. “Flyers would have been best served by a merger between Frontier and Spirit,” the Tribune Editorial Board writes in its first piece today. And American airfares in general are too high. The board also takes a look at new details released about Northwestern’s stadium redesign. Also in our section today, Paul Vallas is back with some thoughts on the Chicago Police Department’s consent decree. Our readers also weigh in on the future of CPS.
