Walmart, Target, Aldi and other grocers are competing for a place on holiday tables this season with turkey dinner deals and other promotions to tempt Americans who haven’t recovered from recent food price inflation. Walmart this year is offering a frozen turkey and ingredients for side dishes for less than $55. Target’s version costs $20, $5 less than the company’s 2023 Thanksgiving meal, and includes a frozen turkey, stuffing mix and canned green beans and canned cranberry sauce. Speaking of Target, the company etched out a slim sales increase in the third quarter and profits slumped as inflation-weary customers pulled back on spending and as costs related to a dockworker strike in October dragged on results.
