Join the John W. Kluge Center, the Library of Congress’ Latin America, Caribbean, and European Division, and the Embassy of Peru for a commemoration of the battle that was fought on Peruvian soil and secured South American independence from Spain. This event will take place 200 years to the day since the Battle of Ayacucho occurred on December 9, 1824.
Scholars Marie Arana, Erick Langer, and Natalia Sobrevilla will discuss the history and resounding significance of the battle. For those attending in person, there is a reception and a display of related treasures from the Library’s collections starting at 5:30pm.
