Netanyahu says ‘last-minute crisis' with Hamas holding up approval of Gaza truce and hostage deal |
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday that a “last-minute crisis” with Hamas was holding up Israeli approval of a long-awaited ceasefire that would pause the fighting in the Gaza Strip and release dozens of hostages. Israeli airstrikes, meanwhile, killed at least 72 people in the war-ravaged territory. Netanyahu began signaling there were issues with the deal just hours after U.S. President Joe Biden and key mediator Qatar announced it was complete. The objection created a dual reality: War-weary Palestinians in Gaza, the relatives of hostages held there and world leaders all welcomed an agreement, expected to begin Sunday, even as Netanyahu said it was not yet finalized. It was not yet clear if Netanyahu’s statements merely reflected jockeying to keep his fractious coalition together or whether the deal was at risk. |

| Rain, snow expected this weekend in parts of New England |
The wind has backed way off, and while the temperatures are still chilly, we’re enjoying the quiet in the next couple of days. That silence will be broken with a few showers and more stiff breezes into the weekend. We’ll rise from the low 30s Thursday to the mid-40s by Saturday. The weekend isn’t washed out, either. Most of the wet weather will wait until after dark on Saturday and the light snow will do the same on Sunday. |

Dozens of Boston Public School teachers are planning an information picketing line at every school in the district Thursday, taking action after nearly a year of contract negotiations. The picketing is expected to occur 20 minutes before school starts, and it isn’t planned to disrupt the actual school day. Union leaders say Charlestown High School will be one of the key locations. For the Boston Teacher’s Union, it’s yet another demonstration as they continue to push for a new contract that includes better pay, better working conditions and more support to be able to teach all students equally efficiently. |

| Pembroke official says brown water is ‘an aesthetic concern,' ‘not a health concern' |
As Kris Faivre watched her washing machine fill with brown, murky water, her heart sank. The resident of Pembroke, Massachusetts, knew it was too late to save the bundle of white towels she had just loaded into the machine. “The water looked as dark as Coca-Cola,” she said. “Coca-Cola.” |
