Israel and Hamas agreed to a ceasefire in Gaza yesterday.

• What it means: The release of dozens of Israeli hostages and a halt to Israel’s 15-month bombardment of Gaza. More than 46,700 Palestinians have been killed, Gaza officials say.
• What’s next? Israel’s government still needs to approve the deal before it can take effect Sunday. Both President Joe Biden and Donald Trump are trying to take credit.
