Tactical Bus Platform Feedback Form

Tactical Speed Humps Feedback Form

S Glebe Rd & Old Glebe Rd Tactical Bus Platform

Tactical Bus Platform

In fall 2024, the County kicked off a pilot project to test a tactical bus stop platform to maintain accessibility to a bus stop while updating the intersection with other tactical safety treatments. The first pilot location identified was S Glebe Rd & S Old Glebe Rd. This intersection was identified during the Glebe Rd High-Injury Network safety audit for pedestrian safety and risk of angle crashes.

The pilot uses low-cost installation solutions (new roadway markings, signage, and flexible posts) to shorten crossing distances, remove a nonessential turn lane, and reduce vehicle conflict points with pedestrians and buses.

Share your feedback about the pilot project by February 8th.  Additional bus platform safety pilot sites may be considered at other bus stops based on feedback received through this form in conjunction with safety impacts evaluated by the project team.

Tactical Speed Humps Round 2

Tactical Speed Hump

Reducing vehicle speeds is fundamental to reducing severe crashes. In fall 2023, the County reintroduced speed humps on Arlington’s streets through a limited pilot focused on reducing speeds in school slow zones. The pilot uses tactical speed humps because they are easy to install and remove, if needed. They are also cost effective, durable, and made from 100% recycled material.

The second round of locations installed in the county in 2024 have shown a significant decrease in driver speeds, with a 26-72% reduction in drivers traveling over 20mph. Additionally, community members have expressed the desire for the original pilot to expand to other areas due to an increase in perceived safety.
