Celebrate the Legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.

We're offering several community events this weekend in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Events include community service projects, musical performances, dialogues about the black experience and youth activities.

Memory Bingo: '60s Edition (11 a.m. - noon)
Listen to songs from the 1960s and see if you can guess your way to bingo at the Burke Centre Library. Work together as a group or see if you can win solo. Prizes will be given to first and second place.

Amigurumi for Beginners (2 - 4 p.m.)
Join us at the Pohick Regional Library to learn Amigurumi, the Japanese art of crocheting or knitting small stuffed toys.
Chair Yoga for Adults (2:30 - 3:30 p.m.)
Learn how to find stability, alignment and integrity, and practice safe movement at the Great Falls Library. Sessions are taught by a certified yoga instructor.
Travel Talk (4:30 - 5:30 p.m.)
Join fellow travel enthusiasts to discuss adventures, misadventures, places you've been and places you want to go at the John Marshall Library.

Lunar New Year Celebrations (Times Vary)
Enjoy Lunar New Year celebrations at our Reston Regional and Dolley Madison libraries. Celebrate the Year of the Snake through music through music, arts and crafts, food and cultural dance performances.

Adapted Park Explorers (10 - 11 a.m.)
Explore different features of Ellanor C. Lawrence Park with hands-on science and nature activities tailored to young people with disabilities. Registration is $11.
Stuff the Bus (10 a.m. - 3 p.m.)
Visit the Vienna and Huntsman Giant supermarkets this weekend to drop off food and gift card donations. Most requested items include cooking oil, rice, cereal, canned protein and vegetables, peanut butter and soup.
Tiny Canvases Painting Party (10:30 - 11:30 a.m.)
Join us at the Great Falls Library for a tiny canvas painting party. Registration is not required.
Read to the Dog (11 a.m. - noon)
Come to the Kingstowne Library to register in person for a 15-minute slot to read to a trained therapy dog. Dogs are certified and trained through People. Animals. Love. Bring your own book or choose a library book. Ages 5 to 12.

Winter Bird Walk (10 - 11 a.m.)
Take a hike through the woods at Riverbend Park with a naturalist to listen and look for the park’s winter avian residents and migrants. Discover what birds do to survive the winter. Registration is $8.

MLK Jr. Day Presents: Focus on Civil Rights Movies (10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.)
In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, join us for screenings of the films Loving, Ruby Bridges and Selma at the Pohick Regional Library.
Dye It Up (noon - 1:30 p.m.)
Learn to make and use natural dyes to transform your white shirts into colorful masterpieces at Lake Accotink Park. Please bring your own white t-shirt or white fabric to the class. Registration is $12.
Winter Lecture-Green Spring Goes to Great Dixter (1:30 - 2:30 p.m.)
Take a look at the amazing work that goes into creating one of Britain’s most iconic gardens, Great Dixter, at Green Spring Gardens Park. Staff will share photos and notes from a symposium they attended at Dixter. Registration is $15.
Mr. Weather Bear (1 - 2 p.m.)
With the help of Mr. Bear, learn about the weather with a felt-board story, bubble play, an ice cube race and songs at Riverbend Park. Registration is $10.

Wreath Laying Service at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial (8 - 9 a.m.)
Pay tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy by attending an early morning wreath laying at the memorial that represents his vision for civil rights in America.

Huntley Meadows Monday Morning Birdwalk (8 a.m.)
Look for birds with the Friends of Huntley Meadows Park. Following the walk, gather at the nearby Denny's for breakfast and to compile the morning's bird list.
