Admin Team with Brookfield Mural

Dear Brookfield Family,

It was a wonderful full week of school with our Broncos! Thank you to the families who were able to attend Wednesday's Doughnuts and Coffee with the Principal. It was a pleasure seeing families, connecting, and answering questions. We will host additional opportunities to connect in the future. Please use this form to share topics, times, and any additional information you would like to provide.

Many of our staff and students had the opportunity to balance their learning and prepare for our 3rd-6th grade transition to the newly named Broncoville.

We are committed to providing timely updates as we undergo our renovation, and we welcome any questions you might have along the way.

The following message was sent to everyone who subscribes to the Brookfield Construction News You Choose:

The contract for the construction of our renovation and addition for our elementary school has been fully awarded.   This milestone marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Brookfield Elementary School community.   FCPS is thrilled to see this important project move forward.

Hess Construction LLC was selected through a competitive bidding process.   Construction value is $39,860,000.00.  Hess is also the construction contractor for Bonnie Brae Elementary School (currently underway) and has successfully completed multiple FCPS projects.  Hess is committed to completing Brookfield Elementary School addition and renovation on time and within budget.   Construction is expected to begin around January 6, 2025, with an estimated substantial completion date of August 15, 2027.

We understand that construction can bring about some temporary changes, including temporary learning classrooms, noise, and traffic adjustments and we appreciate your patience and understanding as the project progresses.  We will continue to keep you updated with important milestones and any changes that may impact the surrounding community.

A pre-construction community meeting will be held in January.  The meeting date is to be determined.

We appreciate your patience and support as we work to improve our school facilities. Stay tuned for more updates.

We hope you have a peaceful three day weekend, and we look forward to see our students on Tuesday, January 21.

Sincerely,

Lesley Hassen, Principal

Margaret Sisler, Assistant Principal

Anthony Ramakis, Assistant Principal

Renovation Updates

What's in a Name?

Voting Image

We are thrilled to announce that our new educational village will be named Broncoville!

This name was chosen through a school-wide voting process, where students and staff had the opportunity to select their favorite from a list of creative suggestions generated by our amazing students.

We believe Broncoville perfectly captures the spirit of our school community. Involving students and staff in this decision-making process was crucial, as it empowers them and fosters a sense of ownership in their learning environment.

We are excited to begin learning and growing in this new space!

Grades 3-6 Student Arrival and Breakfast

  • Breakfast will be served in the same two locations - near the Kiss and Ride entrance and the cafeteria. Students in grades 3-6 will pick up breakfast in the building BEFORE walking through the building to the paved path to Broncoville.
  • Kiss and Ride - arrival and dismissal of students being picked up by car will still be in our Kiss and Ride Lane. Students enter the building in the door by the library and walk through the building. Do not drop students off on the street.
  • Bus Riders will enter through the Front Lobby, get their breakfast and walk to Broncoville.
  • Walkers may walk directly to Broncoville from wherever they enter the school campus - that might be from across the field, the back path or directly from the sidewalk on Lees Corner Road. Walkers who would like breakfast will enter the building and pick up breakfast before going to Broncoville.

Kiss and Ride Safety

  • Families must continue to drop students off in the kiss and ride line. This is essential for the safety of our students and staff.
  • Do not pick up or drop off students in the side parking lot or on Lees Corner Road.
  • New routines and procedures will be in place for students and staff beginning on January 21. Please remain patient and flexible as our students and staff adjust.

Cold and Rainy Weather Preparation

Students in grades 3-6 will be required to walk to and from Broncoville and the main building for arrival/dismissal, lunch, and specials. Please make sure to have students wear appropriate clothing for the weather.

We have received a small amount of umbrella donations for rainy weather. We encourage students to have coats with hoods and shoes that cover their entire foot.

Please reach out to our school counselors (Monica Evans and Tandra Jones) if your childneeds a coat, hat, gloves, etc.

Playground Update

Brookfield Playground

The mulch truck came by Thursday and Friday to fill our relocated playground. As the snow melts and temperatures are warmer, we know our students will be eager to get back outside.

Can We See the Inside of Broncoville?

Inside photos of Broncoville

The heat is on inside Broncoville's classrooms! The admin team ventured out to see the learning spaces this week. The construction crew was finalizing a few things before this weekend's move. The classrooms are ready to be filled with students, staff, and lots of learning!
