Dear TLES Families,
What a great week back it has been! We have loved having everyone back in the building for a full week after our extended Winter Break. This week, we spent time recommitting to our expectations within the classrooms and across the building, and we were able to get back into a lot of good learning. Thank you for helping your students get to school safely this week – As you know, it is so important for every student to come to school every day. If you have questions about whether or not to send your child if they aren’t feeling 100% or have an appointment, do not hesitate to call and talk it through with someone here at school.
Coming up next week we'll have our next PTA meeting on Wednesday, January 22nd at 6:00pm at the James Lee Community Center. PTA meetings occur every other month, so we hope you can make attending a priority! We will have school updates from all three administrators, a discussion with special guest Ms.Dalia Palchik, Providence District Supervisor, and information about the upcoming FCPS boundary rezoning from Mr. Brian Utterback.
Below this section, please review our upcoming important events. We have a number of family events planned that we hope everyone will attend! One of the big ones coming up will be Roar And Explore: A Family Learning Night. This event will take place from 5:30-7:00 on Thursday, February 20th. Doors will open at 5:30 and we will have teams supporting our students as they showcase Reading, Math and Science activities each in three classrooms per grade level. Families will walk away with a game or activity that supports Reading, Math and Science at home! Dinner will be provided between 5:30-7:00, so you can grab a meal at any time as you enjoy visiting multiple classrooms throughout the building. We hope you all can join us for a BIG night of learning and fun!
Thank you,
Ben Chiet, Sarah Buchanan & Ashley Vaccaro

Winter weather will be here before you know it! Watch this video to see how weather-related closing decisions are made.
FCPS’ website is generally the first place to find out about emergency weather closings. Other communication channels will be used as quickly as possible including email, text, social media, and news stations. Learn more about how schedule changes are communicated.
Be sure to plan for the winter season. Update your contact information in SIS ParentVUE, bookmark the FCPS website, and arrange for childcare if needed.
Keep Your Child Warm During Outdoor Activities
We will monitor the weather for low temperatures, wind chill advisories and warnings, and weather advisories which may prevent children from being outside. Make sure your child is dressed appropriately with a warm coat and other cold-weather clothing, so they can comfortably enjoy their time outdoors. See the National Weather Service’s tips on staying safe during cold weather.
If you need assistance supplying your child with cold-weather clothing, please Dogwood Elementary School 703-262-3100. The Dogwood staff can assist with any challenges you are facing, including food, shelter, employment, financial assistance, and health care.
